The adidas Superstar & Promodel are two classic lifestyle sneakers along with the Stan Smith and Rod Laver tennis sneakers. in 2000/2001 Adidas created an updated version of them in the Superstar 2G & promodel 2G respecfully. during that time thanks to Jordan/Jordan Brand (the mid top/3/4 cut became the standard for basketball sneakers and the fit and security of low tops were not as favored as they are today. Many High School, Collegiate and Professional basketball players wore the Promodel 2g from 2000 and beyond.
The fit on these way pretty good. Patent leather made a big resurgance back in 2000/2001 and had a performance advantage of leather in the fact that it was lighter and keep it’s shape and strentgh/shape over a longer period of time. the footbed, heel counter, Achilless notch. standard with throat (of the shoe), lace hole placements, upper materials and patented shell toe. kept your foot locked into place with minimal internal movement.
the cushioning in the Promodel 2G was standard EVA with what I belive may have been Adiprene + in the forefoot and Adiprene in the heel. Adiprene being an elasotmer insert the has higher rebound properties and force absorbsotion/disspersing qualities than standard eva alone. the cushioning while not perfect was adiquate for lighter high school and collegiate frames. double sock if your playing outdoors but these were good enough for a regular season on the hardwood.

The traction on the Promodel 2G may just be it’s best feature. Peaked herringbone on solid rubber with a decoupled outsole and deep flex grooves helped me to move naturally and quickly without worry, slipping or missing a step on the harwoord or the pavement.
The Support based on the fit of the upper, materials, Patented shell toe, and torsion system. helped to keep by foot stable and locked into the sneaker with minimal movement. Simple and effective design features and approaches that keep my feet to move naturally within the sneaker while playing my game.
The materials while not perfect just worked with geniune leather, nubuck and patent leather options. the Patent leather options were what was selected. Lightweight and strong, the patent leather upper, while not the most breathable did a great job of keeing my feet secure.
*2019 the main difference or upgrade with the 2019 release is the Bounce Midsole. Bounce is one of the favorite cushionings that I have tried Since Underarmours MicroG. the Bounce midsole (which I believe is a mix or EVA and rubber pellets. It’s dense, durable, resiliant and responsive while being lightweight and a great absorber and dissperser of impact forces. No pain or shin splints like the 2000/2001 version
The 2000/2001 version was best for indoors but the cushioning would break down quickily and result in shin splints. it wasn’t the best option for outdoor hoops longterm because of this. Thankfully the upgraded Bounce Midsole made this a non-issue on the 2019 version. Indoors, outdoors, wherever these were great and allowed me to play well and fearlessly on the court without worry of soreness or injuries (being in shape helps lol). A great performer at any level. Grab them online or in store if you can still find a pair.
